"Throughout my time at CBU, I've learned quickly that although individual accolades are indeed rewarding; they are not why I play the game. I've never played in hopes to receive awards. I play because I LOVE to compete, to push my teammates, to build lasting friendships and to be a part of something bigger than myself. My focus is and always will be team orientated. However, the one personal goal I have had was to share an AUS championship with my three seniors. The journey here has been anything but easy. I fractured my ankle before playoff weekend in 2016, which kept me on the bench where I could do nothing to help my team win. Watching the final seconds of that championship game and accepting defeat, not only of the game but of my injury really took a toll on me. It taught me a lot about myself and our team dynamic. I used those intense feelings experienced during that loss as motive to come back even harder the next year. This past season I tried to challenge myself and my teammates to be the best we could be every day. Constant accountability, along with much adversity and hard work brought us back to that Sunday afternoon one year later. Coincidentally, I picked up my fourth foul and again, found myself on the bench as those last seconds dwindled. Going back I would not want to be anywhere else. I got to be completely consumed by the emotional atmosphere surrounding me. I got to witness the reaction of my teammates as we realized we were moments away from our accomplishment. I felt nothing but overwhelming pride and honour to be a part of something so meaningful. Those last few moments of reflection before rushing onto the court are something I am forever grateful for and cannot quite put into words." (Alison Keough - Cape Breton University)
